Birthday girls love Hannah Montana

|
My daughter recently turned 10 years old.

If you've been living under a rock and haven't heard of Hannah Montana, she's the biggest thing going in the lives of little girls everywhere. She has music CDs, DVDs, her own television series, and is performing concerts all over. If that isn't enough, there's a growing number of Hannah Montana merchandise all there for parents to empty their wallets on in virtually every local store.

My girl watches her series faithfully and this CD, Non-Stop Dance Party was at the top of her list for her birthday.

If it's not already on your list for the favorite little girl in your life, add it. Your little girl will appreciate it.

Happy Birthday Marine Corps!

|
R. Lee Ermey Today is the day that the United States Marine Corps celebrates its birthday. On November 10, 1775, under authority of the Continental Congress, the USMC was founded.

There are several slangs used to describe Marines. The term "leatherneck" comes from the history of Marines wearing leather collars during the Revolutionary War period. Marines have also been referred to as Devil Dogs ( "Teufel Hunden" ) or stormtroopers by the Germans. Other, less flattering terms such as "gyrene" and "jarhead" have been attached as well.

The Marine Corps motto is Semper Fidelis: always faithful. By the way, the guy to the left there, is R. Lee Ermey. He was the drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket. If you thought he was really convincing in the movie that's because he's a retired Marine Drill Instructor. Some other Marines you just might have heard of include: Steve McQueen, Gene Hackman and Drew Carey. The USMC shares its birthday with a few people:

Go-Cart clip

I recently mentioned that my son celebrated his 12th birthday. We had quite a bit of fun at the go-cart track. He and I got to take a ride together in the two-person carts. I would have let my son drive, but you have to be 18 to drive the two-person carts. But he got to drive plenty of the one-person carts - so don't get the impression that he didn't enjoy himself or that I denied him any amount of fun. While I drove I let him shoot a short video. It's pretty short and kind of bouncy, but here it is

Today is my son's birthday

Today, twelve years ago, at 11:30 AM I was given a gift. A son. He is someone that has impacted my life in more ways than I would have ever guessed. I try to give him the benefit of the experiences that have shaped the person I have become - my successes, my failures, the lessons I inevitably learned by making mistakes.

Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't.

In the end it doesn't matter because he's my son. And just in case he decided to read my blog today . . . a few words from a guy back in 1999. I can't think of a better way to impart upon you some things that I wish someone would have shared with me when I was much younger. I hope you had a wonderful birthday, son.
